Comediantes de cine estadounidenses. Laurel actuó en circos y vodeviles, y en 1910 se estableció en EE.UU., donde hizo sus primeras apariciones en películas mudas. Hardy, hijo de un abogado de estado de Georgia, era propietario de un cine y en 1913 comenzó a actuar en películas mudas. Ambos se incorporaron al estudio de Hal Roach en 1926 y desde un principio comenzaron a actuar juntos en cortometrajes como
Putting Pants on Philip (1927). Realizaron más de 100 comedias, entre las que se cuentan
Déjenlos reír (1928),
La caja de música (1932),
Compañeros de juerga (
1933) y
Laurel y Hardy en el Oeste (1937). Se les considera el primer gran dúo cómico de Hollywood. El delgado Laurel interpretaba al personaje torpe y timorato que contrariaba al grueso y arrogante Hardy, y ambos convertían simples situaciones cotidianas en enredos desastrosos y estúpidos.
